Pharmacosmos is a privately-owned pharmaceutical company
established in 1965 by Dr. Henry M. Christensen M.D. and operates
internationally within three focus areas:
- Medicine for human iron therapy
- Medicine for animal iron therapy
- Clinical and technical grade dextrans
Our corporate headquarter is located in Denmark, Europe, where
we manufacture and develop medicines for treatment of iron
deficiency anemia in humans and animals.
Pharmacosmos markets its branded iron dextran injection compound
CosmoFer® for human use in more than 25 countries.
In the US, Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. markets Pharmacosmos' iron
dextran as INFeD®.
Pharmacosmos is the worldwide leading manufacturer and supplier
of veterinary iron dextran injection for prevention of iron
deficiency anemia in piglets. Pharmacosmos markets its own branded
veterinary iron dextran solution for injection
Uniferon® in several countries. In addition,
Pharmacosmos serves as contract manufacturer of veterinary iron
dextran solution for injection on behalf of international
corporations.
Since 2000, Pharmacosmos is the only dextran manufacturer that
has received the certificate from the European Directorate for the
Quality of Medicines (EDQM) for the specific pharmacopoeial
clinical grade dextran fractions: Dextran 1, Dextran 40, Dextran 60
and Dextran 70.
