Iron Carbohydrate Complexes
Pharmacosmos' research activities focus on development of iron carbohydrate complexes for parenteral treatment of human iron deficiency anemia.
The main research investigations focus on novel iron carbohydrate complexes, which are characterized by the following pharmaceutical properties:
- Non-anaphylactogenicity.
- Iron repletion by total dose iron infusion and intravenous iron injection.
- Minimum potential for free iron toxicity.
- Strong iron carbohydrate bonds.
Currently, Pharmacosmos has patented two promising investigational drug products resulting from innovative combinations of expertise in carbohydrate polymers and iron carbohydrate complexing chemistry.
Protected by several patents on key health markets in North America, Europe and Asia, Pharmacosmos' goal is to initiate clinical studies in partnership with major pharmaceutical companies with leading competences in treatment of iron deficiency anemia.
