Pharmacosmos A/S is an independent, international pharmaceutical company with corporate headquarters, manufacturing facility and research laboratories in Holbaek, Denmark. Pharmacosmos was established in 1965 in Viby Zealand, Denmark, by Dr. Henry M. Christensen M.D.
Pharmacosmos is specialized in manufacturing and development of high product quality Dextran and Iron Dextran compounds for human and veterinary applications.
Pharmacosmos' three core areas of business consist of manufacture and supply of:
- Intravenous iron infusion and iron injection for human use.
- Iron Dextran for veterinary use (prevention of piglet anemia)
- Clinical grade Dextran, reagent grade Dextran and GPC standards for GPC chromatography
Pharmacosmos markets its branded Iron Dextran injection compound CosmoFer® for human use in more than 25 countries. In the US, Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. markets Pharmacosmos' Iron Dextran as INFeD®.
Pharmacosmos is the worldwide leading manufacturer and supplier of veterinary Iron Dextran injection for prevention of iron deficiency anemia in piglets. Pharmacosmos markets its own branded veterinary Iron Dextran solution for injection Uniferon® in several countries. In addition, Pharmacosmos serves as contract manufacturer of veterinary Iron Dextran solution for injection on behalf of international corporations.
Since 2000, Pharmacosmos is the only Dextran manufacturer that has received the certificate from the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines (EDQM) for the specific pharmacopoeial clinical grade Dextran fractions: Dextran 1, Dextran 40, Dextran 60 and Dextran 70.
