Veterinary Iron Dextran
Veterinary Iron Dextran from Pharmacosmos is the worldwide most commonly used medicine for prevention of piglet anemia. Uniferon® is a veterinary Iron Dextran product currently marketed in selected European countries as well as countries outside of Europe.
The active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in veterinary Iron Dextran solutions for injection is an Iron(III) Dextran complex. Well-characterized and highly purified Dextran fractions are used in manufacturing of veterinary Iron Dextran at Pharmacosmos. This yields unique product characteristics and an advantageous safety profile.
The effect of veterinary Iron Dextran in treatment of piglet anemia is well documented, and injection of Iron Dextran in piglets leads to a significant increase in hemoglobin values. Typically Uniferon® 20% is injected on the 1st-3rd day of life.

The production of veterinary Iron Dextran is performed in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice for medicinal products for human and veterinary use according to The Rules Governing Medicinal Products in the European Union, Volume 4, Part I & II (former Annex 18 (ICH Q7A)).

The facility is approved by the Danish Medicines Agency (DKMA) and accepted by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
